LBrain is early software from a small team. It has not undergone an independent security review. It runs on your machine, against your files, and it is offered free and as-is.
Keep backups. Do not point it at anything you cannot afford to have read by a tool that is still being hardened. LBrain does not delete or modify your source files — but that is a design commitment we hold ourselves to, not yet an audited guarantee, and you should treat it as the former until someone independent has checked.
These terms govern this website (lbrain.ai), the LBrain and Metavolve names and marks, and the optional permanent-archive service.
They do not govern your use of the code. The LBrain software is licensed to you under the BSD-3-Clause licence published with its source. Where these terms and that licence address the same subject, the licence controls. Nothing here narrows, conditions, or revokes any right BSD-3-Clause grants you — including the rights to use, modify, redistribute, and commercialise the software.
We say this plainly because the opposite is a common and unpleasant trick: publishing under a permissive licence and then attaching terms of use that quietly take the freedoms back. We are not doing that.
The BSD-3-Clause licence disclaims all warranties, and nothing in this document reinstates any.
Specifically, and because it is the thing people will rely on: LBrain annotates retrieved records with whether they appear to answer your question. That judgement is a heuristic, not a guarantee of correctness. It will sometimes admit a record it should have flagged, and sometimes flag one you would have accepted. Do not use it as the sole check on a decision that matters.
Depending on how you configure it, LBrain may interact with Hugging Face, Google, OpenAI, Arweave, PyPI and GitHub. Each is independent of us and governed by its own terms. We do not control them, and we are not liable for what they do. The Privacy Policy lists every such call.
The optional Tier-2 archive writes encrypted data to Arweave. It exists to give you an attestation that cannot be quietly revised — a ground-truth record against which an editable local index can be checked. That value is inseparable from its cost, which is that the write is final.
Do not use LBrain or this site to break the law, to infringe others' rights, or in violation of applicable export-control or sanctions regulations. Note that LBrain includes cryptographic functionality, which is regulated in some jurisdictions; complying where you are is your responsibility.
BSD-3-Clause grants no trademark rights, and its third clause expressly reserves them. "LBrain", "Metavolve Labs", "Golden Codex", "Aeternum" and associated logos and marks remain ours. You may fork and redistribute the code freely — but do not use our names or marks in a way that suggests your version is endorsed by or originates from us.
Mechanisms in LBrain are the subject of pending U.S. patent applications. BSD-3-Clause is a copyright licence and does not grant patent rights — this is true of BSD and MIT generally, and we state it plainly rather than leaving it to be discovered.
Loss of data is named explicitly because LBrain is a memory tool and that is the loss you would most plausibly suffer. Some jurisdictions do not allow these exclusions; where that is so, they apply to the fullest extent permitted, and nothing here limits liability for fraud, gross negligence, or anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.
We may suspend access to this website or to the optional archive service. We cannot and will not terminate your BSD-3-Clause licence to the code — that licence is irrevocable on its own terms, and a copy you already hold stays yours regardless of anything we do.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. For international users, local consumer protection laws may apply in addition to these terms. If any provision is held unenforceable, the rest remains in force.
Material changes will be posted here with a new date. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance.
